Homage to a Fashion Icon

Karl Otto Lagerfeld was a German creative director, fashion designer, artist and photographer who lived in Paris. He was best know as the creative director of the French fashion house Chanel, from 1983 until his death, creative director of the Italian fashion house Fendi, and his own world renown fashion label. Mr. Lagerfeld was known for his bold designs and constant reinventions. Vogue hails him as the “unparalleled interpreter of the mood”.

With his high level of fame and notoriety he was also known to be somewhat controversial. Fat-Phobic , misogynist, rude, and maybe a little racist are all reported to be apart of the make up of this fashion giant. Recognized for his signature white hair, black and white attire, black sunglasses, fingerless gloves, and high starched detachable collars was the inspiration for my look (we know I love my black & white) The Fashion Icon’s death was announced the morning of February 19,2019 leaving the fashion world in a state of mourning. His genius creativity will be miss. As always please …….. comment and share this post, tell a friend or 2 or 3 lol. You can also email me @ I would love to hear from you.

Can You Wear White After Labor Day?

Can You Wear White After Labor Day?

Can you wear white after Labor Day? This is an age old question of strict fashion rules. Wearing white after Labor Day was considered to be a no ma’am and no sir, but times have definitely changed. Black was considered only for mourning, and sequin was only worn after 5. As we all know that ship has longed sailed. I love ……… my black and now and then give me a little sequin embellishments too 🙌🏽.

Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894, and society eventually adopted it as the natural end point of summer fashion. So this rule goes back more than 100 years. Today’s fashion world is much more relaxed about what colors to wear and when it’s appropriate to wear them. Well for me ….. it all depends 🤷🏽‍♂️! When I say it depends, l generally considered fabric choice and how it is styled. Now if you live in Florida, Cali or anywhere that typically has mild weather year around, you guys can wear what you want whenever you want. ( expect maybe not fur but that’s another post all together 😏) But if you’re in areas like me where we experience all 4 seasons, I suggest we not wear your thin cottons, mesh, and linen fabrics during the winter months.

I went for a very clean look here. The creamy white suit with cream wool coat gave me a great contrast that still allowed the suit to stand out. The tannish gold in the boots, gloves, cuff of the coat, and in the shirt adds to the amazement of this look. Please let me know your thoughts. Do you wear white after Labor Day? Also remember to share the post, comment and feel free to email me @

How to Let Your Clothes Speak to You

How to Let Your Clothes Speak to You

Have you ever had something that you just had….. to wear, but didn’t know exactly what to wear it with 🤔? That’s what was going on with this coat! I’ve worn it before with a more dressy look, and wanted a more relaxed feel this time. It’s a statement piece, so it was very important for me to find a way to compliment the coat without over doing it.

Often times I let my clothes speak to me. The coat said, “ Hello …. here’s the color palette you need right in front of you!” 😩🙌🏽 Using the navy blue turtle neck and the chocolate-brown houndstooth pant was exactly what I needed to complete this look. The coat has a rich navy blue tone with an amazing chocolate-brown collar, so it was no need to mess with it’s perfection. Just a little tip always think about accessories. Accessories add the little details to complete your look. As you can see I’ve added a glove, belt , and watch. Please……..share and comment. Also feel free to email me with any questions, suggestions or topics you would like to see editorialjames cover.

Bit$& Stole My Look

Bit$& Stole My Look

Who wore it best ??? I’m going to definitely give the award 🥇to Michael B. Jordan and his stylist Ade Samuel for this look. Louis Vuitton menswear artistic director Virgil Abloh is amazing at what he does. We have all the evidence of that in this suit 🙌🏽.

Unfortunately ……. I don’t have Louis Vuitton money just yet 😩 (but it’s coming). The creative side of me said,”how can we recreate this look🤔”? So I had this maya blue suit from Zara, it was apart of their spring collection. The belt was the missing piece that I needed. I went on a search and was having no luck at all. Just as as I was about to give up, I stopped in a little shop on the corner of Marcus Garvey & Fulton here in Brooklyn NY it had all types of finds. Hats, glasses, jewelry, socks etc and yes belts. BOOM 💥 there was the belt, the right color, length and everything. I opened the side back seam of the jacket to attach one end of the belt. Now the only thing left to do was to cut off the other end, and attached the buckle to the front of the jacket.

Hopefully this inspires/ encourages someone. Just because you can’t afford the high end designer look, does not mean you can’t recreate it and have the same vibe. Now go and be CREATIVE ❤️ #editorialjames

Mixing Prints

Mixing Prints

When thinking about the Christmas holidays, your plaids and reds definitely come to mind. I’ve found that plaids can sometimes be a hit or miss. The wrong combination of plaid and add the wrong color, Lord here comes the circus 🎪😩😂. So a way to keep with traditions with a modern twist, is mixing prints.

My first suggestion is to make sure both prints have the same/ similar color combination, so that the look is cohesive. Generally there is a more dominant print  (which is the plaid in this look) and your added print should be either smaller or more exaggerated. This look is screaming Merry Christmas and I am ready for the holiday parties. I want to see some of your holiday looks, be sure to #editorialjames. Merry Christmas to you and your family. I can hear someone saying wait …. where is the deals ???  Well the pants are Zara, I got them from Out of the Closet for $15 🙌🏽🙌🏽
